Bariatric Surgery Options
We offer several types of bariatric (weight loss) surgery to help you improve your health. Together with your surgeon, you will discuss and decide which surgical procedure is best for you. The weight loss surgery procedures available at Danbury Hospital include:
- Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy: Removing more than half of the stomach to create a tube (with a sleeve-like shape), this achieves weight loss in two ways. First, the size of the stomach is significantly reduced so only smaller portions can be consumed. Second, reducing the size of the stomach affects ghrelin (the hormone that governs appetite) production, so most patients feel less hunger.
- Robotic Bariatric Surgery: Using the da Vinci robot for gastric bypass or sleeve surgery provides better visualization, allowing your surgeon to work on a smaller, more precise scale than with conventional surgery.
- Revisional Bariatric Surgery: For medical reasons, some people require a surgical revision of the first bariatric procedure. Our surgeons are experienced at assessing your current medical status to identify the best treatment plan for you.
- Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass: This surgery decreases the size of the stomach and also partially bypasses the small intestine, limiting how many calories are taken in. The “lap gastric bypass” is highly effective for two reasons: patients eat less and feel full quickly, and also do not fully absorb the food they eat.
