New Milford Hospital and Danbury Hospital Begin Affiliation Discussions
In September 2009, New Milford Hospital and Danbury Hospital announced their decision to begin formal discussion for a potential affiliation between the two hospitals. Both hospitals are committed to working together for the betterment of the community by exploring ways to create an integrated regional health care delivery system focused on providing the highest quality and most cost-effective care. In the current climate of economic uncertainty and reform, hospitals across the country are in conversations just like these to explore possibilities for improving the delivery of healthcare. If successful, affiliating the two organizations will provide a more coordinated and enhanced scope of clinical services for the populations of both service areas, with the goal of improved access and quality. More details of the affiliation will be announced throughout 2010.
System Member and Affiliate - NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System
In 1995, New Milford Hospital and 15 of its peers in New York and New Jersey affiliated with Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, creating the Columbia-Presbyterian Healthcare Network. At the same time, there were other networks being developed throughout the country and one of those systems was the New York-Cornell Hospital Network.
Columbia-Presbyterian and New York-Cornell had long been recognized among the leading academic medical centers in the world. In 1999, these two great medical centers and their networks merged to become the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System.
The NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System is a federation of top-quality hospitals, specialty institutes, and continuing care centers throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. It was founded to bring about a positive change in the way healthcare is delivered to the community. All System members are academic affiliates of Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. The NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System is dedicated to improving patient care, medical education and research throughout this region of the country.
As a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, New Milford Hospital maintains its autonomy and is responsible for its own operations, assets, and capital development. The System has no legal authority over operations or assets, or responsibility for such obligations. Yet, the affiliate model offers a variety of benefits to enhance our hospital and its service to the community.
