Founded in 1921, New Milford Hospital (NMH), a regional, not-for-profit, acute care medical facility that has earned an excellent reputation for delivering comprehensive and compassionate patient care. The hospital's medical staff comes from many of the finest training programs in the country. Its facilities are of the highest caliber and contribute to NMH's success in recruiting outstanding physicians.
We have grown to become a regional healthcare provider serving patients in western Connecticut and eastern New York State with an extraordinary tradition of caring personal attention backed by the best nurses, world-class technology and the newest, most advanced diagnostic and treatment options available.
As a result of its affiliation in 1995 with one of the most respected networks in the world - the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System (NYP) including the Ivy League medical schools of Columbia and Cornell - NMH offers a level of clinical expertise that's found only in the most sophisticated community hospitals. From its renowned regional cancer and heart centers and outstanding emergency department, to its thriving One Day Surgery, imaging centers and sleep medicine program, NMH has consistently achieved patient satisfaction rankings among the top 5% in the nation.
Some points of interest include:
- the region's first multidisciplinary program in heart disease prevention, which debuted in 2005 and includes a dietitian, cardiac rehab nurse, exercise and behavioral specialists, stop-smoking counselors, and a pharmacist working under the direction of a nationally recognized physician who ran a similar program at The Cleveland Clinic and is expert in treating risk factors for heart disease and preventing its occurrence;
- a nationally renowned, female oncologist specializing in breast cancer;
- NMH, in partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian, was the first hospital in Connecticut without cardiac surgical backup to receive state approval in 2004 to provide cardiac catheterization and primary angioplasty;
- the New Milford Hospital Regional Cancer Center, opened in 1999, provides one of the state's most successful oncology programs with patients from over 100 surrounding communities; our patients benefit from research, including active clinical trials that have included breast, colon, ovarian and other cancers, as well as leading-edge treatments, such as radiopharmaceutical therapies;
- NMH was among the first hospitals in the state to offer intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), smart-beam radiation tailored to each patient, and high dose rate radiation (HDR) therapy on site;
- NMH has a $5.5 million, state-of-the-art One Day Surgery center, including endoscopy suites and expanded operating room capacity;
- the 24/7 emergency department consistently ranks among the best in Connecticut with doctors, trained at nationally recognized trauma centers, treating nearly 20,000 patients annually; its innovative paramedic intercept program supplements local ambulance squads with an advanced emergency medical technician dispatched from the hospital;
- NMH provides one of the highest nurse-to-patient ratios in the state, and currently enjoys one of the state's lowest nursing vacancy rates;
- beautiful beginnings are provided at our Family Birthing Center with state-of-the-art care by professionals dedicated to the health of you and your newborn:
- the most sophisticated diagnostic imaging equipment is available at New Milford Hospital including the latest CT/PET scanning capabilities and digital mammography;
- a hospitalist program giving patients and families in the hospital more immediate access to a physician who works with participating primary care physicians so they have more time for and can see more patients in their offices.
