New Milford Hospital’s chairman of obstetrics and gynecology, Carol Papov, MD, will present a health forum entitled “An Answer to Heavy Periods” on Thursday evening, May 6, from 6:45 – 8:30 pm. The program will be held from 6:45-8:30 pm in the New Milford Hospital Robison Conference Rooms, 21 Elm Street, New Milford.
Menorrhagia, unusually heavy and/or long-lasting menstrual periods, occurs in 1 out of every 5 women. An estimated 10 million women suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding, yet only 2.5 million seek treatment each year. The reason for this is that many women are embarrassed to discuss their periods; they think their bleeding is normal because it has always been that way, or they are afraid of the treatment options.
Many women experience menorrhagia at various stages of their lives due to events such as tubal ligation, hormonal prescriptions or menopause. The effects can be physical, social and emotional.
Dr. Papov will discuss the many treatment options for heavy periods, and the advantages and disadvantages to consider. Her talk will include information on an endometrial ablation procedure that provides a solution with a minimally invasive outpatient treatment alternative to hysterectomy and avoids the potential side effects of hormone therapy.
This program is free and open to the public. Free door prizes will be provided by Hologic™. Pre-registration is requested by calling 1-800-350-1595 or online at newmilfordhospital.org (events page).
