Preventive Medicine
New Milford Hospital places much emphasis on health education and preventing the diseases and conditions we treat. We have been especially aggressive in developing a multidisciplinary team to fight the number one killer: cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Although CVD is both common and deadly, the chances of suffering from it can be lowered 30 to 40 percent by identifying and aggressively controlling risk factors. Our Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program is designed to do just that-identify risk factors that can increase the likelihood of CVD and then develop a personalized plan to reduce or manage those risks. Risk reduction lowers the chance of CVD even if you have already had a heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty or just exhibit the risk factors that make a heart event likely.
The program's multidisciplinary team includes a dietitian, cardiac exercise specialist, nurse, pharmacist, cigarette cessation counselor, and a behavioral counselor providing coordinated care under the direction of a physician widely recognized for expertise in heart and vascular disease prevention. This team treatment model has been shown to be highly effective in lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body weight.
You may want to talk to your doctor about referring you to this program. Most insurance companies will cover the cost of the program as long as another treating physician refers the patient.
Self-pay costs are available upon request. It is strongly recommended that you check with your health insurer before your first visit.
