Supportive Services

Newly diagnosed cancer patients often have many questions and concerns. Understandably, a patient's first thought is often, "Am I going to survive this illness?" By now, you understand that a cancer diagnosis doesn't have to be a death sentence. Early diagnosis and the many advances in treatment have made living with cancer manageable. We are here to help you join the millions of other Americans who are cancer survivors.

Depending on personality, family support and personal make-up, each person handles his or her diagnosis differently. Some may take comfort in talking about their disease, while others find it difficult to talk about.

It's not uncommon to feel anxious, afraid, depressed, alone, confused, lost, angry and worried.

At the New Milford Hospital Regional Cancer Center, we understand all of this. Our Social Work professionals are there for you, whether you need someone to talk to or help arranging a ride to an appointment. We know that there's no right or wrong way to cope with cancer, there's only your way.

Our clinical social workers are trained to assist patients and their families with coping and adapting to a new diagnosis. They can help you navigate through the health care system. They also can provide financial counseling and offer community resources to you and your family.

They are available to meet with patients individually, or as part of a support group. Social workers are at the Regional Cancer Center every day.

For assistance, call us at 860-210-5410.

Support Group

CARES (Cancer Rehabilitation Education Support) group meets Thursdays at 11 am in the Robison Conference Room at New Milford Hospital.

Community Support

We partner with many national and community organizations to make services available to you.  We are an advocate for you and can connect you with additional resources to help you manage your disease and cope with any challenges or concerns.

And remember: There's no right or wrong way to deal with cancer. There's only your way.
